Civil Protection services have extinguished all fires nationwide, and the relevant authorities have begun damage assessment operations ahead of compensating all victims before the end of August.
Following continuous efforts on the ground, all fires that broke out since July 8, 2026, alongside the heatwave experienced in several wilayas, have been extinguished, the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) announced on Tuesday. It added that its operational units and all its systems will remain on permanent alert and standby to intervene immediately and extinguish any new fires that might break out, in order to preserve lives, property, and forest wealth.
Fires had broken out in several of the country's wilayas, prompting intensive operations to extinguish them. Significant human and material resources were mobilized, supported by strong coordination on the ground among the various concerned sectors and bodies.
For their part, detachments of the People's National Army (ANP) stepped up their field interventions to assist civil protection services and forest directorates, mobilizing several units in the affected areas, alongside air force assets, heavy machinery, bulldozers, fire trucks, water tankers, and ambulances, while also participating in the transport and evacuation of populations living near the affected regions.
In a message addressed to Civil Protection personnel, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, highly commended the heroic action of the men and women of this national force, as well as the "colossal and titanic" efforts they made alongside members of the ANP, dedicated citizens, and other concerned institutions.
Speaking during his periodic interview with representatives of the national media, broadcast on Monday evening on national television and radio channels, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, praised the wave of national solidarity shown by Algerians in the face of the forest fires, while paying a vibrant tribute to Algerian youth, whose "sharp patriotism and spirit of volunteerism surprise the world more and more."
On the instructions of the President of the Republic, the Ministry of the Interior, Local Communities, and Transport announced the launch of compensation for all those affected by these fires, with the operation to be completed by the end of August at the latest.
Victims will be compensated for material losses affecting buildings and homes, as well as losses related to agricultural crops and livestock.
To this end, wilaya committees responsible for assessing the damage caused by the forest fires have been established across the various affected wilayas. Bringing together representatives from different concerned sectors and bodies, these committees are carrying out initial on-the-ground assessments in preparation for launching the compensation measures.
