The first shipment of iron ore extracted from the Gara Djebilet mine is expected to arrive tomorrow, Thursday, at processing units in the wilaya of Oran, marking the effective launch of the mine's operation and the processing of raw material into manufactured products.
This step will strengthen the national production chain in the iron and steel sector, stated the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Mr. Saïd Sayoud, on Tuesday evening at Gara Djebilet.
Mr. Sayoud, accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Mr. Abdelkader Djellaoui, as well as the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines in charge of Mines, Ms. Karima Bakir Tafer, specified during the ministerial delegation's supervision of the shipment's launch that the project was carried out with 100% Algerian material and human resources. He emphasized that the credit for starting the project belongs to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who gave the starting signal less than two years ago so that it could become a concrete reality on the ground today.
On this occasion, Mr. Sayoud extended his thanks to all contributors to the project's realization, notably the companies in charge of the works, executives from the Ministry of Public Works and its affiliated institutions, as well as the Chinese partner who played an active role in the execution of the works.
He also praised the efforts of local authorities and elected officials at the level of elected Assemblies and Parliament in both its chambers, as well as the major role played by the People's National Army (ANP) and all security forces in securing the project and ensuring the smooth progress of works under the best conditions.
The minister did not fail to highlight the role of citizens and civil society representatives, who expressed their "joy and positive interaction with the project," describing it as a "long-awaited dream that has today become a reality." He also hailed the support of the media family, which contributed to reporting the events from the field.
The Gara Djebilet project and the western mining line constitute a strategic asset reflecting the State's orientation towards the valorization of mineral wealth, the achievement of economic development, and the strengthening of Algeria's position as a producing power in the field of iron and steel.
Before giving the official signal for the launch of operations at the Gara Djebilet mine from the mining site in the wilaya of Tindouf, and parallel to the commissioning of the mining train intended to transport raw material to Béchar and then Oran, the ministerial delegation inaugurated the railway station dedicated to passenger transport at Gara Djebilet.
