In his capacity as Chair of the Committee of Focal Points of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Mr. Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, participated in the session dedicated to presenting and discussing periodic reports as part of the proceedings of the 35th Forum of Heads of State and Government of the APRM, held today in Addis Ababa.
The meeting was attended by an Algerian delegation led, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by the Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb.
During his address at this thematic session, Mr. Sofiane Chaib presented a report outlining the outcomes of Algeria’s chairmanship of the Committee during 2025, which was marked by several significant achievements in strengthening governance at the continental level, notably through the scheduling and conduct of several country review processes.
In this regard, the Secretary of State highlighted the key accomplishments achieved during Algeria’s rotating chairmanship, particularly the adoption of the 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, the strengthening of governance assessment mechanisms, and the integration of e-governance as a central theme in the review processes.
He further noted that Algeria’s chairmanship worked throughout the past year to promote the role of youth in governance processes and to strengthen the Mechanism’s contribution to conflict prevention and early warning, while also ensuring qualitative progress in the project to establish an African Credit Rating Agency.
Following the discussion of the report, which was adopted during the Forum, the new chairmanship assumed by the sisterly Republic of Uganda commended the achievements made in support of the Mechanism over the past two years. Participating delegations and the APRM Continental Secretariat also praised the positive outcomes of Algeria’s leadership of the Forum under the wise guidance of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as Algeria’s leading role in promoting and strengthening governance across the continent.
