The Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, presided over a technical coordination meeting dedicated to examining ways to enhance and exploit the Trans-Saharan Highway, considered a strategic axis for strengthening commercial exchanges with African countries, the ministry indicated yesterday, Tuesday, in a statement.
This meeting took place in the presence of representatives from several ministerial sectors and concerned bodies, notably the Ministry of Domestic Trade and National Market Regulation, the Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, as well as representatives from the Customs services, the statement specifies.
The meeting also saw the participation of the president of the Algerian-Nigerien Business Council, the director general of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI), in addition to representatives of the Algerian Fairs and Exports Company (Safex).
During this meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of the Trans-Saharan Highway as an essential lever for promoting exports and strengthening intra-African commercial exchanges, particularly with Niger, while insisting on the need to enhance sectoral coordination to ensure the appropriate conditions along this strategic axis.
In this context, the participants examined the mechanisms for supporting economic operators, particularly exporters, through the provision of integrated logistics services and the creation of support platforms, allowing for the optimal exploitation of this vital corridor.
The minister also insisted on the necessity of adopting a forward-looking approach based on permanent coordination between the various actors, in order to transform the Trans-Saharan Highway into a high-performance economic corridor, supporting Algeria's integration into its African space and strengthening the presence of national products in promising African markets, the same source concludes.
