Algerian gymnasts harvested two bronze medals in the junior team competitions during the second day of the 2026 African Artistic Gymnastics Championships, held on Friday in the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé.

The Algerian junior male team, composed of Yacine Jouabi, Rayane Ammoura, Elyas Hicham Lekhal, Ishaq Benilla, and Mohamed Hammadouche, secured a well-deserved bronze medal in a high-level competition dominated by Egypt (Gold), while South Africa took the silver.

Similarly, the national junior female team, featuring Mélissa Djadi, Sabrina Ifticen, Yelina Ifticen, Chanes Benramdane, and Janna Ritadj, claimed the bronze medal, finishing behind Egypt (Gold) and South Africa (Silver).

These results confirm the excellent performance of the Algerian delegations in this championship, following the success of the senior categories on the first day, where they secured five medals: two gold, one silver, and two bronze.

The two gold medals were won by Olympic champion Kaylia Nemour in the Women's Individual All-Around, and by the Senior Female Team in the team competition, ahead of South Africa and Egypt.

The Senior Male Team won the silver medal in the team competition, while the two bronze medals were awarded to Djenna Laroui in the Women's Individual All-Around and Adam Cogat in the Men's Individual All-Around.

The African competition continues this Saturday with the apparatus finals for both junior and senior categories.

The 19th edition of the African Artistic Gymnastics Championships, running until April 27 in Yaoundé, features 12 countries, including Algeria, which is represented by a delegation of 20 athletes across the senior and junior categories.
