2026 World Athletics U20 Championships: Algerian National Team Departs for the United States

The Algerian Under-20 (U20) national athletics team has departed for the United States to compete in the World Athletics U20 Championships, scheduled to take place from August 5 to 10 in Eugene, Oregon, the Algerian Athletics Federation (FAA) announced on Friday.

This participation reflects Algeria's commitment to showcasing its emerging track and field prospects on the global stage, with the ambitious goal of securing positive results against the world's elite junior athletes.

Algeria will be represented by a delegation of 16 athletes, 13 young men and three young women, who will compete across various disciplines, including track events, jumps, combined events, and middle-distance races.

The men's squad features Ayachi Younes (high jump), Benyeghzer Mohamed and Gasmi Zehr Eddine (110m hurdles), Bouziza Ismail (400m), Chabane Yacine (400m hurdles), Dissa Soheib (1,500m and 3,000m steeplechase), Ghalem Younes (1,500m), Ghettas Walid Farès (decathlon), Ghezali Zakaria and Mahdi Yahia (triple jump), Hamida Imad-eddine (400m), Louadj Issam (long jump), and Touahria Zakaria (3,000m steeplechase).

For the women's team, the national colors will be defended by Mefti Hala Khadidja (triple jump), Bounemeur Salsabil (200m), and Aya Zenkhri.

Hosted at the legendary Hayward Field stadium in Eugene, the World Athletics U20 Championships will bring together the planet's top young athletes to compete in 44 events. This prestigious competition serves as a premier showcase for the emerging talents of global track and field, marking a crucial stepping stone in their journey toward senior-level professional athletics.
