Members of the Algeria-Italy parliamentary friendship group at the People's National Assembly (APN) held talks yesterday, Sunday, with their Italian counterparts. During the meeting, both parties emphasized the need to inject a new dynamic into cooperation between the two countries, according to an APN communiqué.

At the start of the meeting, the Chairman of the Algeria-Italy parliamentary friendship group, Kamel Laouissat, welcomed the "renewed momentum in relations between Algeria and Italy in recent years." He stated that the Italian parliamentary delegation’s visit to Algeria aims to "consolidate the results achieved following the previous visit by Algerian friendship group members to Italy, as a recognition of the path of joint cooperation," the source indicated.

Laouissat also highlighted the "exceptional level reached by Algerian-Italian relations, manifested through high-level official visits, notably that of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Italy in 2025, as well as the recent visit by the President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni, which testifies to the depth of the historical and economic ties uniting the two countries."

In this context, he called for the development of partnerships between "Algerian investors and their Italian counterparts, particularly in the fields of SMEs, industry, agriculture, green hydrogen, the pharmaceutical industry, digital innovation, and the environment," specifying that Algeria's new investment law offers promising and stimulating opportunities.

On the international level, the chairman of the friendship group welcomed the convergence of views on issues of common interest, reaffirming Algeria's unconditional support for just causes, foremost among them the Palestinian and Sahrawi issues, the communiqué added.

For his part, the Chairman of the Italy-Algeria parliamentary friendship group, Andrea Mascaretti, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended to the delegation. He praised the opportunity to visit the Central Army Museum and discover Algeria’s centuries-old history.

On this occasion, he reaffirmed that Algeria and Italy maintain "solid relations of friendship, requiring continued efforts to develop and strengthen them through intensified meetings and the activation of joint economic and cultural agreements and programs."

Mascaretti highlighted the "importance of activating the parliamentary cooperation protocol signed by the two chambers in November 2024, as well as implementing its clauses to allow for the exchange of expertise and experience between the parliamentarians and administrators of both countries."

Recalling the strategic relations between Algeria and Italy, particularly in the energy sector, Mr. Mascaretti expressed his country's desire to expand this cooperation to large-scale projects, including green hydrogen, in addition to strengthening the partnership between Sonatrach and ENI within a framework of respect for national sovereignty and mutual trust.

During the meeting, members of both the Algerian and Italian parliamentary groups formulated several proposals aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, notably through intensified coordination and consultation. They also suggested organizing joint meetings to promote the legal frameworks and investment advantages in both countries.

The participants emphasized the "importance of facilitating economic exchanges, particularly for startups, and benefiting from Italian experience in this field, in addition to encouraging and developing cooperation in cultural and religious tourism, training, and accelerating the creation of the Algeria-Italy Chamber of Commerce."

Furthermore, deputies from both sides insisted on the need to strengthen cooperation in environmental protection, particularly through the transfer of waste recycling technologies, as well as promoting the role of women as essential actors in societal development, the communiqué concluded.
