The teams qualified for the 2026 World Cup have finalized the selection of their base camps in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, the International Federation of Football (FIFA) announced on Tuesday, marking an important step in organizing the first World Cup featuring 48 nations.
Algeria, returning to the World Cup after missing the two previous editions in Russia in 2018 and in Qatar in 2022, will establish its base camp in the city of Kansas City, at the facilities of the University of Kansas, according to the list unveiled by FIFA.
The "Greens'" three other Group stage opponents have opted for the following base camps: Argentina in Kansas City (Sporting KC Training Center), Austria in Goleta (UC Santa Barbara–Harder Stadium), and Jordan in Portland (University of Portland).
The base camps will serve as living and training centers for the national teams during the group stage of the competition, scheduled from June 11 to July 19 in North America, the international body specified.
According to FIFA, 39 teams will be based in the United States, seven in Mexico, and two in Canada.
The national teams that have chosen Mexico as their base camp are Colombia, Iran, South Korea, Mexico, South Africa, Tunisia, and Uruguay.
Canada and Panama, meanwhile, will set up their bases in Canada.
In total, 25 communities outside the 16 host cities will welcome national teams, allowing, according to FIFA, the tournament's economic and popular impact to be expanded across North America.
"Team base camps are part of the very fabric of every FIFA World Cup. This is where the teams settle in, train, recover, and live to the daily rhythm of the competition," said Heimo Schirgi, Chief Operating Officer of the FIFA World Cup 2026, quoted in a FIFA statement.
FIFA specified that the base camp selection process began in 2024 with an initial list of proposed facilities submitted to the federations, before being refined throughout 2025. The final choices were made after the final World Cup draw, held in December 2025.
The selected communities notably include New Tecumseth in Canada; Cancun, Pachuca, and Tijuana in Mexico; as well as Alexandria, Austin, Boca Raton, Charlotte, Nashville, Portland, San Diego, and Tampa in the United States.
