The Minister of Health, Mr. Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudene, presided this Thursday evening in Algiers over the opening of the 17th Euro-African Congress on Allergology and Clinical Immunology, organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In his address, Mr. Aït Messaoudene emphasized that the Ministry "has worked on creating a Certificate of Specialized Studies (CES) in allergy treatment, aiming to bolster the skills of health professionals and provide specialized training that keeps pace with the latest scientific developments in this field."
He added that the sector is working in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to register a new specialty, the Diploma of Specialized Medical Studies (DEMS) in Allergology, for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year.
In this regard, the Minister explained that the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, seeks to "develop rapidly growing medical specialties, in implementation of the President of the Republic’s directives aimed at enhancing the quality of health services."
Furthermore, Mr. Aït Messaoudene highlighted that "efforts are underway to strengthen research laboratories in the field of allergology within University Hospital Establishments (CHU) and excellence poles, supporting scientific research and innovation while contributing to improved diagnosis and treatment."
Noting that "allergic diseases and immune disorders have become an increasing public health challenge nationally and globally," the Minister called on participants to "establish sustainable scientific partnerships focused on training allergists and immunologists in Africa." He expressed hope that the congress would serve as a "launchpad for concluding concrete cooperation agreements and launching exchange programs for researchers between African and European reference centers."
For his part, the President of the Algerian Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (SAAIC) and President of the African Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (AAACI), Professor Habib Douagui, expressed his gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his support of the Algerian health system and his "diligent commitment to promoting scientific research and improving the care for chronic diseases."
He also lauded the President's "continuous support and patronage of such major scientific forums, which reflects the strategic will of the Algerian state to develop evidence-based medicine and facilitate equitable access to therapeutic and biological innovations."
On his side, the President of the World Allergy Organization (WAO), Professor Mario Morais-Almeida, stated that "the primary challenge for global allergology today is no longer limited to producing new knowledge, but rather ensuring that all people suffering from allergic diseases can effectively benefit from these scientific advances."
Professor Samuel Ouédraogo, President of the African Allergy Society, welcomed the official "birth certificate" of the African Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology during the congress. He noted that the Academy, chaired by Professor Habib Douagui and headquartered in Algiers, aims to "promote scientific excellence and strengthen cooperation between African countries."
At the conclusion of the event, an honorary tribute was paid to the President of the Republic in recognition of his efforts to upgrade the health system and develop scientific research in Algeria. Tributes were also presented to the Minister of Health and several prominent national, African, and European figures in the field.
