Three Algerian athletes successfully achieved the minimum qualifying standards to participate in the World U20 Championships scheduled to take place in the United States next August, recorded at the conclusion of the National Championship held at the Lalla Setti Sports Complex in Tlemcen.

The athletes in question are the young runner Issam Louadj, who qualified in the long jump discipline with a jump measured at 7.69 meters, while Zahr-Eddine Gacemi and Mohamed Ben Yeghzar both qualified in the 110-meter hurdles race, recording times of 13.60 seconds and 13.94 seconds, respectively.

This trio joins their compatriot Hala Mefti, holder of a 13.05-meter jump in the triple jump discipline, which she recorded last June in Algiers.

Before that, it was the turn of Zakaria Ghazali (Club of Blida) and Mehdi Yahia (Champions School of Bejaia), who secured their qualification for the triple jump competition of the 2026 World Under-20 Championship after achieving the required minimum standard of 15.61 meters and 15.47 meters, respectively.

For his part, runner Hamdi Mohamed Akram (MC Alger) achieved the minimum standard in the 200-meter race with a time of 20.98 seconds, which is considered a personal record for the runner, while Younes Ghalem (Affak Ouled Mimoun) succeeded in booking his qualification ticket in the 1,500-meter distance in a time of 3 minutes, 47 seconds, and 42 hundredths.

Ghalem is the second runner from the Affak Ouled Mimoun club to qualify for this global event, following his teammate Yacine Chaâbane in the 400-meter race.

For reference, the 2026 edition of the World Athletics U20 Championships will take place at Hayward Field stadium at the University of Oregon in Eugene, USA.
