World Indoor Championships (800m): Algeria’s Slimane Moula Advances to the Semi-Finals

Algerian runner Slimane Moula qualified on Friday for the semi-finals of the 800 metres at the World Indoor Athletics Championships being held in Toruń, Poland, after posting one of the six fastest qualifying times through repechage, clocking 1:46.13

Moula finished third in the third qualifying heat, won by Belgium’s Eliott Crestan in 1:45.51, ahead of Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui in 1:45.84

Moula will compete in the semi-final scheduled for Saturday at 13:15 Algerian time, in the second heat. The top two finishers from each of the three semi-final heats will advance directly to the final, which is set for Sunday

Meanwhile, the second Algerian entered in the 800m heats, Mohamed Ali Gouaned, failed to reach the semi-finals after recording a time of 1:48.20

In other events, Yasser Mohamed Tahar Triki, the third Algerian representative on the opening day, will compete in the triple jump final starting at 19:35

As for Algeria’s fourth and final representative in Toruń, Younes Ayachi will take part in the high jump final scheduled for Saturday at 13:15. Ayachi, 17, whose personal best stands at 2.28 metres, will be looking to confirm his status as one of the rising talents despite strong competition

This edition of the World Indoor Championships is the first major event of the season for the world elite, and is expected to feature intense competition, with particular attention focused on Triki and Moula, who are aiming to raise Algeria’s flag among the world’s top nations in middle-distance events
