The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed that the visit of the Spanish Prime Minister to Algeria represents a fundamental and important milestone in preparing for the 8th session of the Algerian-Spanish High-Level Meeting, scheduled for next October, and reflects the shared political will to provide the necessary impetus to an Algerian-Spanish partnership yielding certain benefits for both friendly countries.
This came in a joint press statement delivered by the President of the Republic alongside the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain, following their talks. At the beginning of his speech, the President expressed his gratitude for the fruitful discussions held between the two sides, noting that Algerian-Spanish relations are experiencing a distinguished and growing momentum.
The President explained that the talks, which took place within the framework of a frank dialogue, covered various aspects of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and renewable energies, the promotion of trade exchanges, and the encouragement of investment, in addition to cooperation in the security, judicial, and consular fields.
Regarding judicial cooperation, the President expressed Algeria's hope to strengthen this collaboration, particularly in cases related to combating corruption and recovering criminal assets, by accelerating the processing of mutual legal assistance requests. He emphasized that this file is among Algeria's top priorities, expressing his anticipation for continuing the existing cooperation and responding to Algerian requests in handling judicial files.
The President of the Republic also extended his thanks to the Spanish authorities for their positive response to Algerian efforts aimed at recovering looted funds, praising the results achieved in this framework.
He added that the talks also included strengthening coordination in combating irregular migration, human trafficking, and cross-border organized crime, alongside discussing ways to facilitate the movement of people.
The President of the Republic stressed that the new breath characterizing Algerian-Spanish relations falls within an encouraging dynamic to expand and intensify sectoral cooperation and serve as a catalyst for businessmen and economic operators. He reiterated Algeria's welcome to Spanish investors, expressing his hope that this momentum would open new horizons for strengthening partnerships and capitalizing on promising and mutually profitable investment opportunities.
In the same context, the President expressed his hope that Spain, by virtue of its position within the European Union, would play a positive role in pushing for greater cooperation in economic relations between Algeria and the EU, and contribute to reactivating the Algerian-European Partnership Council, which has not convened since 2020.
On energy cooperation, the President affirmed Algeria's satisfaction with the existing partnership with Spain, which reflects its commitment to its obligations toward the energy security of its partners in Europe. He expressed Algeria's aspiration for broader and deeper cooperation in the field of renewable energies, given the potentials Algeria possesses, making it a key player in the energy transition process within the Euro-Mediterranean space.
He also noted that both sides expressed their shared desire to revitalize currently existing cooperation mechanisms and strengthen others in the scientific, technological, cultural, and humanitarian fields.
On the regional and international levels, the President explained that the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on current issues. The talks addressed developments in the Middle East and the growing tension in the Gulf region, along with the resulting repercussions on global food and energy security.
In this regard, the President of the Republic reiterated Algeria's position, which holds that the solution can only be political and peaceful, in accordance with the rules of international law, calling for the resumption of negotiations and prioritizing the language of dialogue.
The President of the Republic began his statement by extending his congratulations to the Spanish Prime Minister, the Spanish Government, and the Spanish people on the well-deserved coronation of the Spanish national team as World Cup champions.
